Ashen Light, the fifth installment from TOMORROW PEOPLE, is a 6-channel video installation that begins with footage of 2012s Transit of Venus–an astronomical phenomenon where the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and Earth. An occurrence that repeats in a pattern every 243 years, it was the planet’s final transit of the 21st century.

 

The video proceeds with excerpts from educational programming related to String Theory and the possibility of time travel, while reflecting upon the prospect of life in a multi-dimensional universe and whether or not we could potentially exist in another place and time on a different world line. In doing so, it raises basic questions regarding the future of humanity. Having created a world in tumult can we, like Venus, leave it behind? And if there are replicas of us existing in another dimension, are their prospects for their futures any better than ours?
